Hook ‘Em Horns!
Howdy, y’all! Well, it seems appropriate for me to post my first comments on this, the first day of the new year. If it’s a good day to start a diet or an exercise regimen, why not equally a fine one to begin my fabulous new life as a–drum roll, please–Metroblogger!
Speaking of new year’s, I expected this morning to have to fight my way past all the new-year’s-resolution-gym-attendees. These are different people, of course, from the year-round-gym-rats, of which I am one. But all was (virtually) silent at the 24 Hour Fitness in Hancock Center at 9:00 a.m. on New Year’s Day. I suppose resolutions will commence in earnest on Monday, the first BUSINESS day of the new year. I cringe at the thought.
All was silent–NOT!–12 hours later, after the Horns won their first ever Rose Bowl. Apparently (as reported upon, after the fact) by my vicariously victorious husband, it was A Close and Awesome Game. In other words, Horns won. Yee-haw! UT Austin is my alma mater and though I by no means “bleed orange,” I have to admit that all the hoopla surrounding this game has been pretty exciting, even for us non-football fans. I just wish I looked better in burnt orange. Frankly, it brings out the cadaver fleshtones in my skin.
Back to the non-silence. We live in the north campus area, a.k.a. Heritage Park. We’re just a few blocks off the north end of The Drag, Austin’s version of Shattuck Avenue for you in the Berkeley-know. After the Close and Awesome Game, from our house we could hear the madness out on the street, people shouting, cars honking, fireworks popping. This went on for some time.
Needless to say, my sweet hubby is in a terrific mood….
Happy New Year, y’all!
