Coffee alfresco and true Austin music, too
There’s no finer people-watching, South-Austin style, than at Jo’s Coffee on South Congress. Man (and woman) does not live by coffee alone, so there are sides. Yes; it may be in a parking lot and the shade is a moving thing, but this pet-friendly joint is one of a kind. Friendly to pets, friendly to freaks, friendly to all is Jo’s. And on Friday, 18 March, is as fine a selection of Austin music as anybody could find in one place anywhere in the world: Rick Trevino at 5, Dale Watson at 6, and Billy Joe Shaver at 8. “I’m just an old chunk of coal, but I’m gonna be a diamond some day.” Yeah! And Jo’s opens at 7 am, for those out all night or up with the birds. Beer, sandwiches, fancy bottled water, Austin’s own delicious Goodflow orange and grapefruit juice, American Spirit tobacco products, and coffee, iced and hot. This is a place where the smokers and the non-smokers can meet in peace.
