Department of the little known

Thanks to the June Metropolitan Home magazine in the dentist’s waiting room, I’ve just learned that in Austin “summer temperatures can simmer at 115 degrees for days on end.”

This factoid, divulged to the world at large for the very first time, is contained in an article entitled “Grounds for Improvement,” featuring a residential landscape design by Big Red Sun for Ann Elizabeth Wynn, described as “a civic activist, besides being an artist.” She may be better known as the quondam spouse of Austin’s mayor, Will Wynn, and the promoter of Austin’s first First Night.

Big Red Sun is the delightful establishment just two blocks east of IH-35, occupying a fine old bungalow, grounds designed by its principals, and a handsome architect-designed modern structure. And by the way, BRS is having a sale this coming weekend, both Saturday and Sunday. Big savings are promised on plants, pots, kids’ clothes, gifts, and jewelry.
