Fun and free on Thursdays

The Puro Conjunto concert series returns to Parque Zaragoza. Tonight marks the beginning and August 4 marks the end of this series. At each, Los Texas Wranglers will play from 7 to 8 and then will be followed by the headliner of the evening playing from 8:30 to 10.

Zaragoza, at 2608 Gonzalez, on the east side near Pleasant Valley and East Seventh, is a sweet neighborhood park. This is where the conjunto fest used to be held in July, the one that’s now part of Cinco de Mayo at Fiesta Gardens.

Bring lawn chairs and blankets to these family-friendly and alcohol-free events. The music’s never loud enough to hurt the ears of babies and small children.

In addition to local favorites Los Texas Wranglers, highlights of the series will be Austin’s own Montopolis Kid, Johnny Degollado, y su conjunto, on Thursday, July 14, and Conjunto Los Pinkys, on Thursday, July 21.

Other conjuntos will visit from San Antonio. Among the sponsors for the series is La Prensa, usually to be found at the Travis County Courthouse and the main library branch, among other locations.
