Get your high-tops out because it looks as though they’ll be needed. There seem to be more and more field crickets around, and we all know what that means if the trend continues: drifts of them inside the lobbies of downtown buildings, incessant song inside our dwellings, and altogether just way, way too many of these creatures for esthetic appeal. There are years when they last on through October. They’re voracious, too, enjoying treats like those homegrown tomatoes outdoors (they like vegetables!) and your best duds indoors (they like your fine fabrics!). If you don’t have high-tops or the equivalent, then start practicing your broad-jump skills. Crunchy-wunchy crickets underfoot are just what you don’t want.
