Not just the same old buffet items
The owners, apparently, remain, but the chef seems to be new, or at least a great many of the items at the Taj Palace buffet today were. The on-line menu remains the same, and there are still some of the stand-bys that draw return visitors again and again: the dal with popped mustard seeds and a breath of chile, for instance, and especially the seekh kebab (spicy skewered tandoor-roasted ground lamb). There were some new vegetarian items, a fish dish, and a chicken dish not happened upon there before that uses picking spices, murgh achari. There was to-order cooking being done for a birthday party in another room. All that food looked even better than what was at the buffet. Today, the bottomless glasses of iced tea were garnished with lime quarters. Food like this helps lift the gloom of never-ending summer.
