Austin Welcomes The KKK to City Hall!
Join the Ku Klux Klan at the Austin City Hall on November 5 for a rally to support Proposition 2, the Constitutional Amendment to ban same-sex unions, and get your free hatemonger t-shirt! The city has reserved the Austin City Hall’s south plaza on Lavaca and Cesar Chavez from 1-3 pm on Saturday, November 5.
I love free speech and all, so I guess it means I’ll be out there protesting or probably getting arrested or something. Great, what a way to ruin a weekend.
Don’t we know that the most recent KKK demonstration in Ohio resulted in a riot? And Ohio is about a bajillion times more conservative than Austin. My advice? Stay away from downtown on November 5. You should probably just catch the results later on CNN.
I wish the Klan would publish a voting guide for every election. It would really help bring clarity to so many issues.
Dear Public,
As I checked my email this morning, I had received an email about Austin welcoming the KKK at the City Hall this Saturday.
I was outraged, I could not believe what I was reading, I thought is was a joke email until I read further.
the whole idea was absurd! Their slogan for convincing people to join them was, join us to fight same sex marriage in texas and you will recieve a free Hatemonger t-shirt.
I don’t see any connection between the KKK, free t-shirts and same sex marriage.
Are they just doing this to prove that they had power over blacks 20 years ago and now they think they are going to abolish gay marriage in texas? Is this possible that Austinites, are going to see the KKK protest and agree that they are good Christians with valuable morals? You see things that the KKK did back in the 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s, against the black culture and it feels as though it was decades ago.
Today as I opened that email, all I could think was, that I felt as, though we haven’t grown at all or surpassed the hate that is brewing constantly. This is unbelievable that our own Austin Mayor would allow this. Are we trying to teach young children & adults that it’s ok to hate, abuse and be scared, of gays and same sex marriage? And we show this by allowing one of the most hateful, disturbing, outrageis groups of our history to have a presentation.
I hope that people releize that this is not the way to go about it.
I’m not going to say whether I agree or disagree with same sex marriage, although I do believe that we should not show that it’s wrong by participating in another act of wrongness.
I will NOT be attending this Saturday and hope that people see that everywhere we turn around, we are surrounded with , hate, war, dying, killing & unmoral behavior. This is not the way to go about bringing people together.
Thank you for listening.
So, somebody has to say it…and usually you hear it from a conservative but I am extremely liberal and surprisingly you are going to hear it from me…
I don’t agree with what the KKK stands for but we live in the USA. A fantastic country whose soldiers have died to defend everyone’s right, even the KKK, to Free Speech.
So I said it. Now go forth and protest against those KKK idiots.
You can find out more about the Klan rally and its opposition at this web site: http://austin.indymedia.org
I think we should all go our own ways and not worry about if someone is a diffrent race or if they are in a gay marriage everyone is the same if you like it or not.
