Mo’ samosas
When the weather gets chilly, it’s great to have some frozen Indian cuisine in the fridge. Luckily, today MGM Indian Foods had my two favorite dals in stock and also lots of those shelled nuts at a good price. Best of all, there were samosas. Ever since the locally made frozen samosas from Kala’s Kuisine mysteriously disappeared from Kash-Karry / FreshPlus, MGM, Wheatsville, the Hancock H-E-B, and a couple of other places where they could reliably be found, something’s been missing from the Home Snack Wardrobe.
These triangles of pastry filled with spicy mashed potato and green peas are often on the menus of Indian restaurants here in town, but after the disappearance of Kala’s samosas, the frozen ones out there in the stores didn’t come close to measuring up to hers.
The owner was a bit mysterious about their provenance, but said the samosas were fresh and handmade. Already cooked, after a quick warm-up in the microwave oven they were ready to be enjoyed with mint chutney, restocked today. Only one samosa per person came home in case they weren’t any good, but they were! Never frozen and very tasty, they merit a return trip in order to stock up in quantity.
Try the MTR brand “Vada”. Those are a good frozen item as well that MGM carries.
