Casting call: pigskin division

Friday Night Lights, by H. G. “Buzz” Bissinger, is a favorite book that has become a movie with at least one Austin-area location and is now about to become an NBC television series, with a pilot scheduled for production right here in Austin.

Sought are male actor-athletes from 18 to 27 years of age who have actual experience on the gridiron yet are not college-eligible players and who can devote six weeks or so to the project if chosen.

Those interested are asked to report on Tuesday, January 24, or Wednesday, January 5, between 9 am and 6 pm, to stage 2 of the Austin Studios, at 1901 East 51st Street. Additional information concerning these auditions is available by calling 538-0197.

I loved the book so much that I was afraid that the film would spoil it, but I’ll have to watch it some time I know. The TV production won’t harken back to the time in which the book is set; it will be contemporary.
