Those bold enough to consider Trading Spaces must apply by the end of the day on February 6, for production of two episodes in mid-March. The deadline was contained in information sent directly, but the craigslist entry says that the deadline’s February 1. Those who apply early stand the best chance. There’s an application up at craigslist.

The blurb says that the rules are simple: the show, produced by Banyan Productions, provides two pairs of friends with a $1000 budget, a professional designer, a carpenter, and 48 hours to redo a room of their choice. But they must switch houses, and they have no say in how their own room will look! The producers are seeking brave homeowners to represent the Austin area. The rules:

1. Two people per team
2. Rooms must be at least 12’ x 12’
3. Houses must be within a fifteen minute drive of each other

Although there’s a postal address given, the advice is to submit the application electronically. Filming will be over the course of four days, which may or may not include a weekend. Only those whose applications pass the first screening will be called for a telephone interview and then perhaps for a personal interview or a visit from location scouts.

Some of the questions on the application follow. When was the house built? In what style? Have applicants or any of them attempted any decorating or do-it-yourself projects? (There’s no query about the success or lack of it.) Have applicants been on television before? Who else lives in the house? (There’s no query about creatures harbored.) The only question that has “do not leave this space blank” on it asks applicants to reveal “hobbies, interests, any funny stories”).

This sounds very strenuous and the results must often end friendships. But maybe not. This could be the adventure of a lifetime.
