Will Almost Certainly Wynn
May 13th seems like a long way off, but three months is nothing when you have a re-election juggernaut to launch. Flush with his successful brokering between CapMetro and its drivers, Mayor Will Wynn is throwing a little party this Friday to kick off his re-election campaign. Asleep at the Wheel will be shaking down potential donors, musically speaking, between 5-7pm at the Broken Spoke on behalf of the incumbent. Somehow my wife garnered a semi-personal telephone invite, while I am relegated to lurking around Will’s sing-songy URL to feel the love.
Not that the Mayor needs my help to overcome what has thus far been an obligatory challenge from Mayor Pro Tem Danny Thomas. Thomas has developed a mild case of contrarianism — casting a solitary vote against the Spring rezoning and singularly refusing to oppose Prop 2 — but otherwise hasn’t established a clear agenda for his candidacy against a popular sitting Mayor. And the guy doesn’t even have a website yet, leaving lazy bloggers without so much as a .jpg to toss up.
Speaking of websites, Wynn has a “Keep Austin Weird” page to showcase how crazy and fun-loving this oddball town is under his administration. It has one picture of an art car.
After stepping in to bring the bus conflict to a settlement, he got my vote. Go, Will!
