For the weekend? Maybe you ought to just stay home
At least that’s what the Statesman seems to be telling you to do. As usual, there is a flurry of activity in downtown. This weekend the Texas Independence 5K Run will close streets and as that loops around the Capitol, the Ronal McDonald House Fun Walk will close what streets the other run left open. Whew! Then there’s the Texas Independence Day Parade that starts at 11:00. If all that isn’t your cup of tea, there’s the Texas Home & Garden Show at the Convention Center.
Thankfully, I’m always too hungover on Saturday to be affected by the goings on downtown. By the time I stumble outside to do anything I am usually just wondering why there are so many orange cones and barricades beside the street.
I can’t thank you enough for this post. I live on the south bank of the River, a good pogo stick hop from Congress. Last fall, the day of the KKK rally? Between that, road construction, a charity run and a traffic accident, I was stuck west of Lamar from 10 am to almost 6 pm. Literally every route home (short of detour to Hays or Williamson County) was closed.
Your post let me know that it could happen again tomorrow, which means I can give ample notice to the org I volunteer with that I won’t be able to go tomorrow. I’m staying the hell home.
You’ll want to avoid 45th and Shoal Creek Blvd. all weekend as well.
