ICP Orchestra brings order and chaos to Austin

Local experimental/improv activists Epistrophy Arts are bringing some true giants of European jazz to Austin next month. Monday, April 3, they will be hosting Amsterdam’s ICP Orchestra at the Scottish Rite Theater.

ICP Orchestra is the long-time improvisational vehicle of Dutch composer/pianist Misha Mengelberg and drummer Han Bennink. As Epistrophy Arts so eloquently describes them:

The Instant Composers Pool Orchestra encompasses a full range of modern music: Ellington and Monk, Kurt Weill and European dance band music, Webern-like chamber music, South African kwela, free improvisation, conducted improvisation, interactive games, counterpoint and simultaneity, catchy melodies, pastel harmonies, order and built-in chaos.

Tickets are $18 in advance (at Waterloo Records and End of an Ear), $20 at the door. This opportunity to have your mind opened up and stretched across the rafters is not to be missed.
