Gone to glory

The heavenly band has welcomed another Austin angel. Jesse Taylor has left this earthly plane of existence. His music was part of the magic that was the Joe Ely Band. Joe, Jesse, Lloyd Maines, Ponty Bone, and everybody else ever a part of that wondrous, joyous group will surely find their reward above. Jesse’s just gone to his a bit early. I’m so glad that I never, ever missed any possible opportunity to hear this music.

One of my early, hazy (’92ish) Austin memories was drinking at the Guadalupe Antone’s, listening to Jesse Taylor rip it up with Joe Ely. All night, some drunken fool kept screaming “Jesseeeee … GEE-TAAAAHRRRR … Taylor.” I don’t think it was me doing the yelling, but the guy was quite worthy of the accolades.

There was a story recently published about Jesse and his art. With shades of Biscuit, this is turning into an unhappy trend.
