Tejano legends together onstage at Bass
In a lot of music for the money, los grandes de la musica Tejana, los gigantes of La Onda Chicana, will play with real big-band sound at the UT PAC Bass Concert Hall this Saturday evening. Here are the old-school luminaries all in one concert, in the plush surroundings of Bass, where there are no bad seats: Ruben Ramos, Little Joe Hernandez, and Sunny Ozuna, accompanied by an all-star orchestra with members from both La Familia and the Mexican Revolution. Presented in collaboration with the UT Performing Arts Center’s ArtesAmericas program, this evening will be the first time that Tejano music has ever been performed in a concert setting on the UT-Austin campus. A portion of the proceeds from Los Grandes de la Musica Tejana will support the Americo Paredes Scholarship Endowment Fund at the Center for Mexican American Studies, which is marking its 35th anniversay. There will be brass! Tickets begin at the bargain price of $20. The eye-catching design here is on a black background, on the front of a favorite screen-printed T-shirt promoting El Gato Negro. The writing in the corner says “Vicente Rodriguez ’93.”
