Conjunto polka party today

For just five dollars before 8 pm and eight dollars thereafter, five dollars for students with proper identification and for seniors, and free for children ten and under, the best in bajo sexto and accordion music tempts all ages to get out on the dance floor. Hours of traditional music in celebration of el cinco de mayo will be enjoyed at this annual event for the benefit of the Greater East Austin Youth League. The doors will be sure to be open by noon and the music is scheduled to begin at 12:45. This is not must about music: it’s about food, carnival rides, strolling under the trees at Fiesta Gardens, and a dance contest.

12:45 pm Eddie “Lalo” Torres
2:00 pm Santiago Jimenez, Jr.
3:30 pm Mingo Saldivar
5:00 pm Ricky de la Rosa
6:30 pm Johnny Degollado
6:45 pm Polka dance contest with money prizes
7:15 pm La Sombra de Valerio
7:30 pm Los Fantasmas del Valle
9:00 pm Los TexManiacs (with David Farias of La Tropa F on accordion!)

This is a wonderful family-friendly event (and there is beer for the adults). The music makes people happy and does not hurt the ears of small children. It’s fine to bring folding chairs and blankets. Last year’s conjunto festival was quite a damp affair, but the rains seem to be gone at last.
