The parade that wasn’t
Word is that the mayor called off the parade at the last minute. Whether this is true or not doesn’t matter. After a leisurely stroll of several blocks and much conversation with porch-sitters and fellow walkers along the way, we arrived across from the Fresh Up Club in time to see parade banners being removed from trailers and cars. That’s the Fresh Up sign to the left in this picture. The electrical part of this morning’s storms was over although there was still enough light rain to dampen people but not their spirits. LCRA and Capital Metro people, among others, went along the route anyhow, so we came away with some swag: LCRA-brand bottled water, some free T-shirts, some miniature compasses, some pens, and some candy. People were reluctant to leave the parade route even once the freebie-procession was over. As we headed back, we saw Lloyd Doggett and Mrs. D. out in their front yard. I imagine that events will resume again at Rosewood Park as the weather continues to clear. There’s plenty of outdoor cooking of all kinds going on, rain or shine.
