Bait and switch

Great was our disappointment to arrive at the Tinseltown South and find that Pokiri, in Telugu without subtitles, had been substituted for Chup Chup Ke, Hindi with subtitles. We saw many in saris and shalwar kameez leaving, perhaps to return for the promised 6:30 showing and perhaps not. Others did stay for, or had come expressly to see, Pokiri. The box-office clerk didn’t know whether Chup Chup Ke will show at all after today. Lured by people dressed in sandwich-board signs, we repaired to the closest Albertsons, at Stassney, where the liquidation of merchandise is moving right along. Office and stationery products, some with the Office Depot brand, have 25% discounts. This store has a wonderful selection of party goods (candles, crepe paper, paper hats, favors, paper plates and cups in strong solid colors, and much, much more), all discounted. Cosmetics and toiletries are moving fast. Albertsons has always stocked heavily in the baking, cleaning, sewing, and light-bulb sections, and we did some long-term replenishing. The movie schedule for tomorrow promises Chup Chup Ke again in the afternoon. We’ve been looking forward to this movie, so, if it’s really showing, maybe we’ll burn some more vacation time. Or maybe the burned vacation time will be devoted to checking out additional liquidating Albertsons stores.
