Fran’s Hamburgers is ready when you are. Bad weather may have taken out the sculpture atop the drive-in shelter and the favorite chili of many is no longer on the menu, but the burgers are just as they’ve always been and the French fries may even be better. The food’s off the grill and out of the fryer almost before you’re back at your table, even when the customers are many, as was true yesterday afternoon at about 2:30, when we dashed in for a quick bite before the movie. Nobody ever seems to mention Fran’s jukebox, but it’s a favorite: Hank Williams, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Selena, Eddie Gonzalez, the Kumbia Kings, and much, much more.
