Paris vs. Banksy, ding ding ding!

Okay, so news about Paris Hilton isn’t necessarily Austin-related. But I figure – hey – Austin is the music capital of America (or is it the world?), so music news is Austin news.

Now before you register the first sentence of this blog and discontinue your reading adventure, read this next sentence first:

The worlds most artistic and respected prankster just pulled a big on one Paris Hilton.

Going by the name of Banksy (stenciled in red on brick walls around the world), a notorious funny-guy activist switched out 500 copies of Paris Hiltons debut album across countless stores in the UK, replacing them with, uhhh, rather manipulated versions of the cd.

According to a BBC news article from earlier this week, “Banksy has replaced Hilton’s CD with his own remixes and given them titles such as Why am I Famous?, What Have I Done? and What Am I For? He has also changed pictures of her on the CD sleeve to show the US socialite topless and with a dog’s head.” Among other things.

This guy even replaced the orginal barcodes on the cd, so people would buy them without knowing it! Follow THIS link to see some pictures of the cd.

While good for a laugh, a part of me grimaces at the fact that this little stunt only shed more undeserved spotlight on Ms Hilton…bad publicity is still publicitity right? And, as we all know- bad publicity is where Paris got her big break!

Oh and by the way- last time I checked, these bad boys were going for up to $4,000 on eBay. Sick and wrong, sick and wrong.
