Dell: who says accounting is boring?

Dell’s in the financial news reports everywhere today. Bloomberg’s coverage is among the most extensive up to this time, reporting for the benefit of the investor. This story involves postponement of a quarterly report, postponement of meetings set for analysts and reporters this week, entry of DOJ into an investigation begun by the SEC, and accounting issues including possible misstatements related to accruals, reserves and other balance sheet items. Analysis of the possible materiality of these issues will no doubt follow, but it’s reported that the price of Dell shares has been falling today. This is news that is likely to continue to develop today and in the days to come, with more analysis of all aspects in tomorrow’s reports.

Shocking! As an ex-Dell employee I’m really suprised to find out there might have been corruption at a a cult-like company based upon the worship of a stock price. Shocked!
