Really Whole Foods
The Austin Farmers’ Market, a growers-only market, has expanded its market days to Wednesdays at the Whole Foods Market flagship store on Lamar and 5th/6th. The grand opening ceremony, “Breaking of the Squash” will be held today at 3:45pm with Councilmember Lee Leffingwell, Whole Foods Market Team Leader Steve Cramer and Sustainable Food Center’s (SFC) Executive Director Ronda Rutledge. Music by Aimee Bobruck and Blacktop Bend and various Chefs’ Demos will follow.
The Austin Farmer’s Market will be open every Wednesday between 4 and 7PM. (The market has been on a trial run since September.) It sports fresh and prepared foods (such as breads, cheeses, jams and salsas) from ranches, farms and dairies within 150 miles of Austin. Here’s a chance to establish a personal relationship with the people who put food on your table.
The market is a project of the Sustainable Food Center which promotes access to healthy, locally-grown foods. As such, it has established a system to accept food stamps.
