SXSW Monday Night: Nuclear Taco, Metroblogging Meetup and more parties

Metroblogging Meetup

Since there were so many possibilities for a meetup during SXSWi, I decided to declare Nuclear Taco the Metroblogging Meetup location for this year. I’ve always meant to attend and never made it over there.

Hot MeatWe had Katie from Houston, Lauren and myself from Austin, Erica and Greg from
Minneapolis and Dylan from Seattle. We also had a few local readers join us. I’d traded e-mails with Liz from San Francisco, but didn’t see her or the other SF Metbloggers in attendance. I’m a pretty big fan of hot food, but these things were f’ing hot. My lips went numb, my eyes teared, my nose ran. I managed to get one down in between two beers. It
took a good fifteen minutes to get rid of the heat after finishing the taco. Poor Erica looked like she was going to upchuck. After burning our insides, we split up and hit the various parties.

Dylan, Jason and I headed over to Sidebar for the Lifehacker party. It turns out arriving a bit early to these things is the hot call as you can actually get a table and watch the party form around you. We got a table outside on the patio. Eventually we were joined by Kyle Machulis and Annalee Newitz. I missed Kyle’s panel, Sex and Computational
Technology
, but we were treated to his hack combining his work and the bona fide SXSW Interactive 2007 obsession, aka Twitter Dildonics or Clitter. I took a shot of Kyle and Annalee with my Razr, posted it to Flickr and it ended up in Annalee’s
Table of Malcontents Wired blog post
.

Twittermania

We ended the night at the South By Northwest party at Iron Cactus where yet another rain storm put a damper on the patio festivities.

I’ve never eaten anything that caused me so much pain. Actually I’m glad it burned my mouth up as much as it did, because that prevented me from letting it in where it could do more (and more lasting) damage.

    Never again.

    Great meeting y’all! :)

We should do it again next year, without the nuclear taco eating.
