Lammes chocolate-dipped strawberriesThe quick-run to the tax office on Airport was easily combined with a stop at Lammes Candy across the street. We watched people executing sudden and dangerous U-turns as they saw the sign about chocolate strawberries. Today and tomorrow are the last days this time around. The lure for us was dark-chocolate almond bark and orange peel dipped in dark chocolate. Others were topping off their Easter baskets with fancy eggs, chocolate bunnies, jelly beans, and more. There were still some empty baskets at excellent prices, wicker in very bright colors (fuchsia, acid yellow, strong purple, chartreuse, sky blue), some lined in plastic so that they’d make great outer containers for presents of potted tulips, hyacinths, or other gift flowers. Lammes is a happy place and the customers are always happy, too, happy when they arrive and happier still in making their personal selections. I notice that most people begin consumption before they’re even out the door.
