Rich in toothpick dispensers

Lone Star flagAt Ace Mart there are still free calendars for 2007. The illustrations are homey photo collages of Ace Mart employees around the state. My favorites are January, with a guy in a hot-dog costume, and October, with a guy in a box-of-popcorn costume that’s greater yet.

The illustration here is of a wall-painting in the parking lot. We combined our Ace Mart run with one to OfficeMax, and we realized that a number of people were doing exactly the same thing. There’s an excellent selection of paper doilies right now, so it’s a good time to lay in stocks for next year’s homemade Valentine’s cards. I checked out the Grosfillex outdoor chairs but didn’t care for the models on display. There was a lot of Metro shelving being bought. We were there for the year’s supply of heavy-duty aluminum foil but didn’t escape that lightly. Thank goodness the better tabletop stuff is no longer sold as open stock or broken cartons or the tariff would have been worse.

As part of the noontime combo errand event, I tried to pick up the Chron that I didn’t have time to get yesterday at the Starbucks next to OfficeMax. That was my first (and probably last) time ever in a Starbucks, and I didn’t even find a Chron, although the local daily was for sale there. I didn’t buy coffee or anything else and was glad to escape into the fresh air. And speaking of coffee, Ace Mart usually has some free and hot and usually has some popcorn to accompany it.
