Next door or around the corner

What do you think of your neighbors? What do they think of you? In my case, apparently nobody gives a hoot about anybody, one way or another. Or maybe they just aren’t aware of RottenNeighbor, headquartered here in Austin, but intended to be used in every town in every state. Not much came up when I punched in the ZIP codes of greatest interest to me. Although this venture is fairly new, it has received a great deal of press coverage. I just never happened to see any until a small crime report in the local daily brought it to my attention (“Man sought in computer attack,” 2/7/08). Pixeldust Interactive, the company that suffered the attack, has this to say about RottenNeighbor, apparently an affiliate. The RottenNeighbor FAQ page has a few words to say about the supposed purpose of the site and its purported usefulness. I’m as curious as the next person, but there is a limit. The site’s marked “beta” and “What are your neighbors saying about you?” is the tagline. Maybe we Austinites are too live and let live or just plain too busy going about our business to pay much attention.
