Juneteenth is a day of reflection as well as joy. Its observation
grows even without the official recognition sought. Thank you for
telling us about the KBH action. It's news here and will be to many
and it does constitute an official and specific matter for use in
calling and writing to members of Congress about the proposed
legislation.

As in previous years, President Obama did not issue a Presidential
Proclamation establishing Juneteenth as a national day of
observance, but just another impersonal annual Juneteenth greeting.
Juneteenth has never been celebrated at the White House and
President Obama has yet to speak to the public about the
significance of Juneteenth Independence Day in America. The White
House and the U.S. Capitol were built by Americans of African
descent during the tyranny of enslavement. President Obama should
host a White House Juneteenth reception to honor their sacrifice.
However, thanks for writing and reporting on Juneteenth. Most
importantly, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX) has introduced
legislation to make Juneteenth Independence Day a National Day of
Observance, like Flag Day and Patriot Day. We urge President Obama
to do the right thing and join the U.S. Congress to establish
Juneteenth Independence Day as a National Day of Observance, like
Flag Day or Patriot Day. Together we will see Juneteenth become a
national holiday in America! "DOC" Rev. Ronald V. Myers, Sr., M.D.

Thank you for writing about the American Scenery exhibition
at the Blanton Museum of Art. That exhibition has closed, but we
still have the Go West exhibition on view through the summer
and two new exhibitions opening June 10:

[...] Radiohead taped an episode of Austin City Limits last night
at the Moody Theater in Austin and we have the setlist for you. No
word on when the show will air on TV, but we’re hearing October.

The last two performances were last weekend. I believe that one of
the performances was recorded live and it's possible that KMFA-fm
89.5 radio may at some time broadcast it.

Yes; we use them in our household, finding them at Wheatsville or
at Fresh Plus / Kash-Karry. They have no extraneous ingredients in
them at all. Look for them in a cool case. The ingredients are:
corn--white corn, water, lime; wheat--organic wheat flour, water,
canola oil, non-aluminum baking powder, salt. They both puff up
beautifully when heated in a cast-iron skillet or on a comal.

We agree I think. It's perfectly ok for customers of a restaurant
to park on public streets, if the restaurant is in voluntary
compliance. However, in the four cases I've studied, three
mentioned here, they were not. So then its a question of why. In
every case here, the restaurant expanded AFTER their adjacent
neighbors had already moved in. By allowing the restaurants to
expand beyond the capacity of their lot, you are effectively
denying use of the public streets to anyone else, including the
residents and other businesses. This is very much the problem with
S Congress. The increase in restaurants, and their expansion,
mostly outdoors has put the whole neighborhood and the
non-restaurant businesses into conflict. Downtown the city has a
different way of dealing with this, they lease/license the public
spaces to the restaurants for valet parking, which they then charge
for. This, in my book is a much more egregious sin than legal
restaurants using public streets for free, since valet effectively
removes the space(s) from the pool of available spaces, even when
they are empty. RPP is pretty much the same thing, which is why
many won't resort to them.
