Oh Curras, How I Love Thee…

Curras

Curras Grill, on Oltorf, between Riverside and Congress- This is one of my oldest favorite mexican restaurants in Austin. Having been a happy customer for years, I just felt like I had to tell everyone about i

t. Plus, I had a photo of their sign on my hard drive. Anyway, if you have never been there, you owe it to yourself to try the food. It’s a nice blend of tex-mex and interior food with a very original menu. As far out as they go, they do not neglect the basics either. They consistently use high quality ingredients, have pleasant presentation of the food, and the flavors are superb. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, but be ready to wait if you go for dinner. Everyone else had the idea to go there at the same time you did,. Or it often seems that way. But, it is definitely worth the wait. Actually, waiting gives you a chance to have a margarita and talk before your meal- that is never a bad thing. Their margaritas are lovely- everything from basic frozen to custom monster epicurean delights- they have a great selection of tequilas, and can generally recommend them appropriately.

My only complaint with Curras would be an occasional problem with the staff, but it is rare. And, one time I ordered a Flan and a Tres Leches cake to go and had them served to me in drink cups. How absurd? It only happened once, and they did correct the mistake.

Try them. Love them. Enjoy!

Love Curras! Their Conchinita Pibil is breathtaking, and their Cajeta tacos are to die for.

My wife and I call it Fonda-on-the-cheap.

and if you are going to do margaritas, you cannot go wrong with their avacado margarita… sure, they look pretty awful, but they taste divine!
