Eyes on the skies
Watch for skyrockets this Sunday evening at about 9:30, on the downtown side of the river and just east of the Congress Avenue bridge. In fact, the bridge, if not for some reason closed off, will be an ideal place from which to view this ten-minute display. The Norwood estate dog park is probably another good spot (with noseclips for odor-free viewing? But, then, the bats under the bridge have their own special aura). Guests at the Four Seasons will have the best view of all.
I was driving across the 1st Street bridge tonight and saw them. I remember you said they’d be there but I cannot for the life of me figure out what the F for.
Word was that this would be on Sunday, not Monday, but sometimes circumstances change or the weather is in some way unfavorable. This may be on its way to being a yearly event, but there’s never any notice in the paper, just sometimes a brief squib afterward. The 9-1-1 dispatcher always hears about it while it’s going on. Anything reported about it always just says “private event.” The Austin Convention Center calendar for August shows a booking for a “private event” from August 27 through August 30. All very mysterious. It’s usually a handsome display of fireworks, but dogs who don’t like thunderstorms don’t like this, either.
