All-in-one Halloween headquarters

Those who don’t beat the rush at Electric Ladyland/Lucy in Disguise regret it when the line to get in begins stretching way down the block. This is the time for the best selections.

And then, just a short walk away from Lucy/Electric Ladyland (which is at 1506 South Congress), only a block east of the Avenue, is the neighborhood pumpkin patch. Select your decor, get ideas for extreme pumpkin-carving, be photographed (in costume?) amidst the harvest bounty, and contribute to a good cause. The pumpkins come from the Navajo Nation, Four Corners area, where they were grown, and 70% of the proceeds return there, with the remainder going to Grace United Methodist Church, source of many community good works.

Post-shopping refreshment is to be had at any of many, many local dining spots and watering holes, way too numerous to name, again all within walking distance.

Even though it’s one of Austin’s national holidays, Halloween is not for grown-ups only. This pumpkin patch and the Lucy complex are great for kids, also.
