Race for the Cure

13739.gifThis weekend is the 5k Race for the Cure, the Komen Foundation’s annual fund raiser to help fight breast cancer. The race is somewhat different in that it encourages enrolling as part of a team, which not only helps generate donations but also promotes an esprit de corps that you don’t find at most other races. In other words, knocking granny down on your way to a personal best is generally frowned upon (unless she’s walking four across at the finish line … then all bets are off).

The race begins around 8am on Sunday (the 6th) near Auditorium Shores at South 1st and Riverside. If you haven’t signed up, online registration is open until tomorrow, and walk-up registration is available at RunTex Riverside thereafter. Sign up on an existing team, or register as an individual if you prefer the anti-social runner vibe. Either way, your fee goes towards reaching the $500k goal for this year, with most of that money staying in Central Texas for education, screening and treatment.
