But wait! there’s more!

If the African American Resource Guide published in today’s local daily seemed more than a little skimpy and to be scanting some of what newcomers seek, it’s good to know that much of the missing information is on line, although the reader must sign in or construct an identity complete with password and (probably phony) demographic information in order to view it. There are to be found these: churches, fraternities, sororities, Links, Jack and Jill, and much, much more. Even if there are some lacunae and some bits of information that need updating, corrections and additions are sought. So this isn’t a bad roundup after all. The calendar portion is pretty skeletal and contains major recurring events without additional information for the most part, but SoulCiti and KAZI always have that one covered (with more in-depth reporting in NOKOA – The Observer and The Villager). Readers are invited to contribute to a public blog associated with the site: “Tag your entries “blackaustin” and we’ll consider posting them here.”

After looking at the site for a minute or two I don’t see a way to contact you guys outside of replying to a post so I’m going to put my thoughts into this comment. I’m dropping you guys as a RSS feed. The personal bent on the items you post has turned me off. I’m very interested in learning about cool things that are going on in Austin, but I don’t need to know about how events negatively affect you. Overall, I would suggest that you consider skewing your blog entries towards information rather than personal views on mail delivery or what causes power outages. I’ve definitely found some value in the posts on this blog, but the signal to noise ratio has gotten to the point that it’s not worth my time to find the nuggets of information that I find useful. I wish you the best and believe that there is a large group that enjoy your comentary – it’s just not for me. Best of luck.

So check out the Austin Chronicle and the websites that steal from it.
