Be prepared

Yes; that’s the motto of the Boy Scouts, and more than five thousand of them will be in Austin this Saturday from all over Texas, so don’t be surprised if it’s difficult to find a parking space downtown. After a hearty breakfast, starting at about 9:30 am the Scouts will march up Congress to the Capitol in an annual event that’s lots of fun. The reviewing stand will be at Seventh and Congress. I love the signs, which are handmade and tell from what part of Texas the groups have come. Every year the parade has a theme, which is realized in some very inventive ways. This year it’s “To Help Other People.” Those who want to see the parade forming up should be on or near the bridge. If I remember my camera, I’ll try to grab some pictures of the floats. It’s good to know that the Scouts have been advised to leave all knives and “multitools” at home. The Scouts usually march alphabetically by council, from Alamo Area to Yucca.
