Early arrivals

From the Drag to the Capitol all the way down south to Oltorf, it was clear today that SxSW visitors are already in town. We have some ourselves. It’s fun to see so many people on foot and carrying bus schedules.Since we already used up the eggs bought yesterday at the South Congress Farmers’ Market, we stopped in for more at Farm to Market Grocery, and one of the owners confirmed that she’s seen many tourists, starting mid-week. Chef Keem is now making a second variety of chocolate bar wrapped in the Farm-to-Market label: the base is the same wonderful Guittard dark chocolate, but instead of chile and a tunnel of raspberry preserve, this one has ground up espresso coffee bits in it. Farm to Market has been selling T-shirts, canvas carrybags, sets of Austin PlaceNotes, and loaves of Texas French Bread and bottles of wine for taking back to the visitors’ rooms. Doc’s MotorWorks was jam-packed and there was a line at the Home Slice Pizza window. The party has begun.
