There’ll be one screening, and one screening only, of The Whole Shootin’ Match at SxSW. This is not technically the best movie in the world, but, once seen, it’s never forgotten. This is a restored version and should not be missed. I looked for on-line reviews and found just one that seems to approach appreciating the spirit of this movie, filmed locally and capturing much that has long since disappeared. Also out there can be found a series of reminiscences of Eagle Pennell. “Insulation” and “The Whole Shootin’ Match” are forever linked, thanks to this movie, from way back when this part of the world was a homier, smaller place.
