Open or shut?
Sometimes it’s not so easy to tell, but McCormick & Schmick’s is, in fact, among the places downtown where there’s a full menu all afternoon long on Saturdays, along with Manuel’s and Louie’s 106, to name two. Soon it will be easier to tell, because M&S plans to have tables on the Avenue under the shade of an awning. Today’s party enjoyed the sampler of briny oysters of several varieties and from as many sources. The hebi and mahi-mahi and all the other finny main courses came to the table fresh and hot from the pan. This is the first time that any of us had been served in any location but the bar. The existence of the three private dining compartments with curtains that can be drawn to close them off from other patrons was news. The waitron said that these are very popular and are usually reserved quickly for evening dining. Tomorrow there will be an Easter brunch, but we forgot to ask about the menu. As always, the people-watching was fine, and it promises to be finer yet when the sidewalk tables are installed.
