Shelter mag shops Austin

At BookPeople this weekend, copies of the current Elle Decor issue were selling fast. If you see one, go straight to page 106 to browse the Austin once-over. Although shopping on the Drag is scanted, author Jay Jennings covers Sixth and Lamar, the warehouse district, South Congress, and various other consumer magnets, including Allens Boots, Big Red Sun, Roadhouse Relics, and the obligatory Whole Foods. There’s an excellent map infographic, as well as a great deal of nutshell information about top tourist locations, hostelries, dining spots, and less-touted attractions. The most-quoted person in the article is Liz Lambert, of the San Jose. Apart from the map, the images are stock photos, but a very good selection. For those alone, anyone about to squire first-time visitors around Austin might want to buy the magazine to send in advance. They give a very good idea of Austin’s looks, and the article is a compact introduction to Austin for those not familiar with its charms.
