Planning a Wedding in Austin, Part 2
I’ve become one of those women I used to loathe when I was single and in my early twenties, a woman obsessed with her own wedding. I’m working hard at not becoming the dreaded Bridezilla, but when else in my life is it going to be all about me and what I want? So a little Bridezillita every once in a while, no harm, right? My only big meltdown came the day after we booked our venue (The Terrace Club in Dripping Springs), and we found out that a good friend of my fiance’s had booked his wedding for the day before, in Michigan. After some discussion, we decided to keep our wedding date and move forward as planned. So now we’re moving forward, and there are vendors galore to talk to. At least The Terrace Club has in-house catering, decorations, tables, chairs, linens, china, etc. So we don’t have to worry about all those things. But now that we have a wedding date, we must find a photographer, videographer, officiant, band v. DJ, clothes to be married in….and I have to admit, I’m really loving the planning! (If you have any suggestions or advice for these sorts of things, please chime in! I got some great ideas from the last wedding planning post.) The researching vendors, looking at other people’s wedding photos, browsing photos of gowns, it’s a blast. This weekend will be even better, because I’m making my first foray into the world of the bridal salon with appointments at Melange Bridal, Serendipity Bridal, and Belle Saison. And then there’s the Austin Bridal Extravaganza on Sunday. Planning our wedding is my new hobby, and I love it! (I do, of course, still have my plethora of other hobbies, and I’ll be posting about those, too, no worries.)
Eat a light breakfast before the extravaganza — catering vendors put out lots of free samples of very, very good food. And bring something to carry away business cards and brochures. This was a great place for me to start for my wedding, to do price and service comparisons.
Save yourself. Elope now and have a party later! ;)
And don’t hire a DJ, use an mp3 player.
