Private pyrotechnics

American FireworksSparklers are legal fireworks in Austin, as are a very few other items. This stand stocks hens laying eggs and many semi-serious devices, most of which are illegal within the city limits. The guy at the stand says that this year should be good for business: wet enough so that there’s no burn ban or complete ban on sales of some items and not so wet that the shop has to close. Another vehicle kept us from turning into Big Tex, but American Fireworks was just a few yards beyond. The notion of continuing farther along the Lockhart Highway and heading all the way to Lockhart itself was tempting, but it was just a lunchtime sparkler run and there just wasn’t enough time during the noon hour.

FYI, Terra Toys on Anderson has stocked the legal stuff in the past. No need to head out of town. I think I saw some packages at Sam’s as well, but they were huge and way more than I would use for the 4th.

We did have another errand out that way. One thing we found that I’ve never seen before were very, very tall sparklers (for setting in the ground), wrapped in silver and colored ribbon, very decorative and almost too pretty to light.
