Potluck picnic in the park

Austin enjoys a look back at old-time small-town festivities with today’s Labor Day Fandango in Little Stacy Park, scheduled from 1 to 5 pm. The wading pool will be open for the little ones to enjoy! Bring along your made-it-yourself or bought-on-the-way picnic, along with a musical instrument to play, if you’re able. Representative Lloyd Doggett is scheduled to make an appearance at about one o’clock. A silent auction includes among its offerings many contributions from favorite South Austin establishments. Minus the parade, today’s Fandango is the big South Austin Independence Day event that was officially cancelled because of the July 4 weather. Although the skies may be cloudy right now, I’m guessing that, no matter what, there will be picnics in the park today, just as there were on the Glorious Fourth. Charcoal sales were brisk yesterday at the H-E-B. I love it when Austin feels cozy. It’s been so quiet that all the church bells have been audible, very rare these days.
