Texas Relays public announcements

The welcome brochure touted Tuesday by APD chief Acevedo on KAZI radio is now on line. This two-sided tri-fold brochure available in an Adobe PDF file for download and printing gives addresses for shopping malls, includes a map of the street closings (which are extensive), and appears to warn that the ordinances governing the following will be enforced with particular attention: youth curfews, open containers of alcohol, loud music from vehicles, blocking intersections, and occupancy safety limits at clubs and parties.

On Saturday, April 5, major bus-route detours will be in effect from the start of service in the morning until the end of service. Delays are to expected on all routes in the downtown and Highland Mall areas as a result of traffic congestion. Capital Metro will operate a campus shuttle.

These streets will be affected by closures and congestion:
*6th Street will be closed from Brazos to IH-35.
*Eastbound and westbound traffic will not be allowed from the IH-35 frontage road to the frontage road at 6th and 8th streets.
*On the east side of IH-35, Fifth Street and Sixth Street will be closed at 8 pm between IH-35 and San Marcos and Brushy Street will be closed from Fifth Street to Seventh Street..
*Several IH-35 ramps near downtown will close.
*Expect streets to be jammed in the area surrounding Highland Mall.
*Additionally, Capital Metro will operate a campus circulator shuttle.

I’m not entirely certain that the police brochure conveys an aura of hospitality, despite its “welcome” heading, but it does contain a great deal of useful information.
